What is EDM?
Edm stands for Electric discharge machining and is a technology whereby a desired cavity , form or shape is formed by discharging sparks;
In toolmaking this means that the basic steel mold-plate is put in a liquid bed ( dielectric liquid), whereas a electric pulse removes steel from this basic plate and thus forming a cavity , or the negative form of your desired product .
Toolsteel has to be electrically conductive and with EDM we can cut intricate contours or cavities in pre-hardened steel without the need for heat treatment to soften and re-harden them.
